Chicago Bears gave wideout Ted Ginn Jr. a one-year, $1.2 million deal in the offseason, hoping to make the veteran an important piece of their offense. But eight weeks into the season, Bears are already moving on.

Ginn was informed by the Bears on Wednesday that his services are no longer needed by the organization.

The team later confirmed the move on their social media.

Ginn struggled to make an impact in Chicago, lining up for only 62 snaps on the offense and managing three receptions for 40 yards. He also had 14 snaps for special teams but failed to impress as a punt returner.

Besides Ginn’s poor play, Bears’ decision was probably influenced by the development of rookie Darnell Mooney. A fifth-round pick out of Tulane, Mooney has been enjoying a stellar campaign in 2020 and has emerged as one of the preferred targets for quarterback Nick Foles. He already has 26 receptions for 305 yards and two touchdowns.

Before landing with the Bears, Ted Ginn Jr. spent time with five different franchises, including Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. He has 412 career catches for 5,742 yards and 33 touchdowns.
