Injury problems continue to pile up for the Chicago Bears. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Bears starting running back David Montgomery is dealing with a sprained knee and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Montgomery got hurt in the fourth quarter of a 24-14 win against the Detroit Lions while making a run attempt on 1&10. He immediately grabbed his knee and had to be helped off the field, causing Chicago to feat he might have suffered an ACL tear.

Luckily, Montgomery’s injury isn’t season-ending, but he will still miss several games while recovering. Graziano reports that the Bears believe he is going to be out four to five weeks.

This is a tough blow for the Bears considering David Montgomery was arguably the team’s best player on the offense. In four games in 2021, the 24-year-old player rushed for 309 yards and three touchdowns while adding six receptions for 49 yards.

Chicago will likely turn to offseason pickup Damien Williams, who made 16 rushing attempts through the first four weeks and gained 73 yards. Rookie Khalil Herbert is also an option after he was mainly used as a kick returner so far in the campaign.
