Chicago Bears orchestrated a memorable comeback on Sunday against Atlanta Falcons, but it wasn’t all good news for the organization in Week 3. Their all-purpose running back Tarik Cohen tore his ACL and will be out for the season.

Cohen got injured midway through the fourth quarter while returning a punt. He called a fair catch, but Falcon’s Brian Hill ended up being pushed into the 25-year-old player and caused his knee to bend in an awkward direction.

Cohen couldn’t put any weight on his leg after the play, and needed to be helped while leaving the field. After the game, Chicago’s head coach Matt Nagy told reporters that Cohen most likely tore his ACL.

“Unfortunately, it looks like Tarik Cohen, after we get confirmation, looks like he did end up tearing his ACL,” said Nagy. “So that will be a big blow to us there with that, which is unfortunate. So proud of that kid, and he’s been really growing.”

Since entering the league in 2017, Tarik Cohen has been filling several roles for the Bears. Besides being used as a rusher, Cohen also excelled as a receiver while handling returning duties as well. In the past three seasons, he racked up 2,676 rushing and receiving yards while also having 13 combined touchdowns. He also has 1,613 return yards and one TD on top of that.

Several weeks ago, Cohen inked a three-year, $17.25 million contract extension with the Bears that should keep him in Chicago through 2023.
