The Chicago Bears thought they were getting a potential No. 1 wide receiver when they traded for Chase Claypool last season. But just over six months later, it seems like the Bears have buyer’s remorse.

According to ESPN’s Marc Silverman, the Bears are internally not happy at all with the way Claypool’s trade worked out. Speaking on his Waddle & Silvy show earlier this week, Silverman shared that the team is especially concerned about the way Claypool approached this offseason.

“I have heard from a few people inside that building that he is not somebody who is very self-motivated,” Silverman said.

The Bears paid a hefty price to get Claypool, sending a second-round pick, which became a 32nd overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, to the Pittsburgh Steelers in November. The 24-year-old player didn’t turn any heads during his time in Chicago during the second part of the season, catching only 14 passes for 140 yards and no touchdowns.

Chase Claypool showed big promise after entering the league as the Steelers’ second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. This was particularly the case in his rookie campaign when he had 62 catches for 873 yards and nine touchdowns en route to the PFWA All-Rookie Team selection.
