Veteran corner Trae Waynes is enjoying a rough start of his stint with Cincinnati Bengals. According to reports, Waynes, who was one of Bengals’ biggest offseason acquisitions, suffered a pectoral injury on Monday during practice and is now set to miss the start of 2020 NFL season.

The initial estimation is that Waynes will be sidelined for about two months. However, the 28-year-old player decided to seek a second opinion in hopes of minimizing his downtime.

Waynes inked a three-year, $42 million contract with Bengals in March and was welcomed as one of their marquee signings. Cincinnati hoped that he can serve as the key piece in their secondary and help revitalize last year’s worst defense in the league. So far, things haven’t worked out for the two sides.

Back in July, Waynes expressed his concerns about Bengals’ strategy in dealing with free-agent signings. The organization decided to withhold all payments and deals until the players had medicals in the team’s facility, which turned into a struggling process due to coronavirus pandemic.

Trae Waynes spent the first five years of his career with Minnesota Vikings, who took him fifth overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. During that period, Waynes racked up 247 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 42 pass deflections, and seven interceptions.
