Cincinnati Bengals are not having the kind of offseason they expected. After their 2019’s top pick offensive tackle Jonah Williams previously suffered a season-ending injury, Bengals now also lost star wide receiver AJ Green for a significant amount of time.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, Green suffered an ankle injury on Sunday during practice. Schefter reports that MRI tests on Monday showed that the 30-year-old tore his ankle ligaments and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Although Green is expected to miss the Bengals’ season opener, Cincinnati’s coach, Zac Taylor, said that the team will have a definite timeline after gathering “more information.”

“We don’t know that (it’ll be 7-8 weeks) yet. We’ll gather more information.” – said Taylor. “It looks like an ankle sprain. The severity of it, we don’t know. … But the good news is, it doesn’t app2ear to be anything that’s extremely long term. That’s the good news based on what I saw yesterday. Your heart drops a little bit.”

This is the third time since 2016 that AJ Green had a significant injury that got into the way of him playing a full season. In 2016 he was limited to 10 games due to a hamstring tear while he played only nine games last season due to a toe injury.

Green finished 2018 with 46 receptions, for 694 yards and six touchdowns.
