France coach Didier Deschamps has said that Benzema’s possible recovery from injury is not something that he is thinking about as he continues making preparations for the remainder of his team’s World Cup title defense. The striker was ruled out of the tournament a day before its commencement due to suffering an injury to his left thigh in training.

“You’re looking for things,” Deschamps replied to reporters at a news conference on Tuesday when questioned about Benzema’s possible recovery before the conclusion of the World Cup. Several reports have claimed that Benzema could recover in time to help France in its World Cup journey.

Deschamps insists that Benzema needs time to recover, even if he does overcome his injury woes. He revealed that he spoke with the player after his injury and that both Deschamps and Benzema understand the situation at hand.

The France coach added that he has chosen not to focus on Benzema’s absence as he still has 24 players in the French squad to work with.

So far, France has enjoyed a smooth start to their World Cup title defense, defeating Australia and Denmark 4-1 and 2-1 respectively to book their spot in the Round of 16 with one group game remaining.
