The Buffalo Bills announced on Wednesday that they had come to an agreement for a multi-year contract extension with head coach Sean McDermott, a deal which will keep their key head coach in northern New York for the foreseeable future.

McDermott, who was hired by the Bills in January 2017 after a long stretch of disappointing seasons, has impressed during his first three seasons as the franchise’s head coach. McDermott is best known for his defensive capabilities, as the Bills have developed one of the best defenses in the league during his tenure.

The former Panthers defensive coordinator has made the playoffs twice in his three-year tenure with the Bills, grabbing a Wild Card spot in his debut season as well as last year. 2020 was his best year so far, as his team went 10-6 and finished in 2nd place in the AFC East before losing a heartbreaker in the first round of the playoffs to the Houston Texans.

McDermott’s new deal is reported to be for six seasons, which will keep him under contract through the 2025 season. Team owners Terry and Kim Pegula stated, “We are happy to extend his contract and keep him in Western New York for many years to come.”

McDermott will now look to prepare his team for the upcoming 2020 season.
