It turns out that there was some truth in reports that Argentina powerhouse Boca Juniors might try to recruit LA Galaxy’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. According to Boca board member Jorge Anro, Ibrahimovic’s interest in playing for Boca is real and the move remains a real possibility.

Media in Argentina reported last week that Ibrahimovic is interested in playing for Boca and is thinking about signing with the club after his contract with Galaxy expires in December. And while player’s agent Mino Raiola immediately denied these rumors, it seems like the story wasn’t completely fabricated.

“It is true that Ibrahimovic wants to play for Boca and it is true that we are in a position to bring him in,” – Anro told Mundo Boca Radio. “The club is in a very good moment institutionally. It is so good financially that it can afford those luxuries.”

Ibrahimovic is currently earning MLS-high $7.2 million and it is expected he would want something near that for his next contract despite turning 38 soon. For Boca, this figure wouldn’t be an issue.

“We would be able to pay Zlatan’s contract.” – Anro added.

Boca Juniors are hoping to pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic with another former European star Roma legend Daniele De Rossi. Boca signed De Rossi in July, bringing him in on a free transfer.

While Galaxy and Ibrahimovic haven’t discussed a new deal yet, it is hard to imagine that the MLS side would let go of the Swedish striker without a fight. In 28 games he played this season, Ibrahimovic scored an impressive figure of 29 goals while also adding seven assists.
