Liverpool was brought back down to earth on Saturday after defeating Manchester United 7-0 last week, losing to Premier League strugglers Bournemouth 1-0. The win sees the previously last-placed Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone, going 16th with 24 points.

While Liverpool appeared to be the team in the driving seat at the start of the game, the Cherries soon kicked into gear, shocking the visitors in the 28th minute when Phillip Billing beat goalkeeper Allison to hand the lead to the home team.

Diego Jota immediately made an impact for Liverpool, coming on at halftime in place of Harvey Elliot. Jota went on to win a penalty for the Reds, however, Mohamed Salah shocked Liverpool by blasting his spot-kick high and wide of the goal.

“It was clear from the first second that we come here, Bournemouth are fighting to stay in the league, wonderful club, wonderful city, they want to stay in and they do really well,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game. “Results were not going in the right direction in the last few months, but the performances look different, and so they deserve the three points today, that’s it.”
