Injuries keep on piling up for the Atlanta Braves. After losing reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. and ace Spencer Strider for the remainder of the 2024 season, the Braves also saw All-Star third baseman Austin Riley go down with a serious injury.
Riley suffered a right-hand fracture after being hit by a pitch in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. The Braves confirmed the nature of Riley’s injury and shared that he will be out between six and eight weeks while recovering.
The recovery timeline will rule out Riley for the remainder of the regular season and a portion of the playoffs if the Braves end up there.
Riley, who already missed two weeks earlier in the season, has been batting .256 with 19 homers and 56 RBIs in 110 games he played in 2024. While this hasn’t been on the level of production he delivered in previous years, his absence still leaves a big hole for Atlanta to try and patch up.
Despite the string of injuries, the Braves are still in good shape to make the playoffs. They are currently second in the NL East with a 66-58 record and have a two-game lead over the New York Mets for the final NL wild-card spot.
