Atlanta Braves didn’t let the 0-8 shootout loss to Miami Marlins on Tuesday get in their heads. Instead, they bounced back magnificently and went on a tear that saw them demolish Marlins 29-9 and set the National League record for most runs scored in a single game.

Things didn’t look good for the Braves early on, as they finished the first inning trailing 2-0. But Atalanta turned things over in the second, scoring 11 runs, and there was no stopping from there. Overall, they scored at least three runs in five different innings while finishing the night with seven home runs.

Braves’ 29 home runs was the most by any NL team and second-most in the modern MLB era. The current record holders are Texas Rangers, who scored 30 against Baltimore Orioles in 2007. American League teams Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox also got to 29 in 1950 and 1955, respectively.

Marlins also made history, but not in a good way. The 20-run deficit was the franchise’s largest margin of defeat in history, according to ESPN.

Atlanta Braves’ historic game was fueled by left fielder Adam Duvall, who drove in nine runs and had three home runs, and first baseman Freddie Freeman, who added two homers while driving six runs.

“Pretty amazing,” said Freeman after the game. “Hard to put into words, really, when you look up and see 29 runs on the board. I’ve never seen an offense click like that, all together.”

With this latest win, the Braves improved to a 25-18 record, and now hold the first place in NL East. Marlins, on the other hand, are third in the division with a 19-19 record.
