The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) decided to fire interim coach Diniz in order to rather focus on finding a permanent coach to take the team forward. In a statement released by the federation, it was explained that president Ednaldo Rodrigues informed Diniz that he wanted to “advance the process of choice of a permanent coach.”

Diniz was appointed interim coach for Brazil after the previous boss Tite stepped down from the role following Brazil’s quarterfinal exit from the 2022 World Cup. At the same time as his work for Brazil, Diniz retained his role as head coach of Fluminense, whom he led to victory at the Copa Libertadores. Unfortunately, his Brazil career was not as successful, with the team losing three of their first six matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifying.

Brazil hoped to secure the services of Carlo Ancelotti as their next head coach, however, Ancelotti decided to sign a new contract with Real Madrid through 2026. With Ancelotti no longer an option, the CBF has decided to ramp up its efforts to find a replacement.
