Paris Saint-Germain captain is set to leave the French champions this summer after spending eight seasons with the club.

French media outlets L’Équipe and RMC reported that Silva was informed by the club that he won’t be offered an extension to his contract beyond the PSG UEFA Champions League campaign.

The Brazilian defender’s contract was supposed to expire in June, but his stay was prolonged for another two months due to the coronavirus. The 35-year-old player already played his last Ligue 1 game as the league chose to cancel the rest of the 2019/20 season and gave the title to PSG.

According to reports, Silva isn’t getting an extension because the club’s dealing with a huge financial loss this year and is looking to cut their budget and Silva’s salary is demanding. Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani, and Leandro Paredes could also be affected by this budget cut.

Thiago Silva joined the club in 2012 with a record $50 million transfer from Series A side Milan. In his eight seasons in Paris, Silva won more than 20 trophies including seven Ligue 1 titles and played 310 games.

It’s still uncertain where Silva will play next, but reportedly his home country of Brazil and signing with Fluminesnse, is up there on the list.
