The Denver Broncos dismissed head coach Nathaniel Hackett on Monday after making a 4-11 start to the season. As a result, Hackett has become the shortest-serving noninterim coach in franchise history.

“Following extensive conversations with [general manager] George [Paton] and our ownership group, we determined a new direction would ultimately be in the best interest of the Broncos,” new Broncos co-owner Carrie Walton said in a statement. “This change was made now out of respect for everyone involved and allows us to immediately begin the search for a new head coach.

Walton added that Broncos general manager George Paton will assist in the search for a new head coach. A news conference has been scheduled for Tuesday, during which the Broncos management is expected to give further insight into the coaching situation.

In what has been an overhaul of the team, Denver’s new ownership also dismissed special teams coordinator Dwayne Stukes and offensive line coach Butch Barry on Monday, replacing them with Mike Mallory and Ben Steele respectively.

Following a 51-14 drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, the Broncos remain at the bottom of the AFC West.
