All the blood, sweat, and tears, have finally paid off for Denver Broncos nose tackle Mike Purcell, who is getting a three-year contract extension.

Purcell is a fantastic success story. The 29-year old defender was an undrafted free agent in 2013 and ended up spending four seasons on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. He then bounced around a bunch, being signed and then cut by four different teams, the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and New England Patriots in 2017.

Purcell then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018 and it looked like his professional playing career was coming to an end when he took a job playing for the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football (AAF).

However, Purcell never gave up and kept pursuing his dreams, which led to signing with the Denver Broncos in 2019. Purcell has helped to solidify the Broncos run defense. Since Purcell was put into the starting lineup, the Broncos run defense has been one of the best in the league.

The terms of the three-year contract are not known yet, but whatever money he’s getting, it’s certainly a lot better than what Purcell was making with the Salt Lake Stallions last year.
