Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku announced on Monday via his agent that he will request a trade from the Cleveland Browns and look for a fresh start with another team in the league.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus told the media, “It is in David’s best interest to find a new team at this time.” It should come as no surprise that Njoku would look to find a new team after some of the team’s decisions this offseason.

Cleveland signed star tight end Austin Hooper to a four-year contract earlier in the offseason and also drafted tight end Harrison Brown in the fourth round of the draft.

Njoku, a first round pick in the 2017 Draft, suffered through a disappointing 2019 season which was marred by injuries which severely limited his playing time and production.

2018 was Njoku’s best season as a pro so far, as he combined with quarterback Baker Mayfield to become one of the Browns’ signal caller’s favorite targets. He caught 56 passes for 639 yards and 4 touchdowns that season.

Plenty of teams looking for an upgrade at the tight end position should be interested in Njoku’s services, but will probably at least have to give up a middle round draft pick in order to acquire him.

Now, Njoku will have to wait and see if his team is able to send him out on his way to a new start before the beginning of Training Camp.
