Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul has suffered a neck fracture that could potentially sideline him for the entire 2019 NFL season.

Pierre-Paul suffered the injury after he participated in a car accident last week. According to ESPN, the 30-year-old will visit several neck specialists this week to determine the extent of the injury but will most likely have to undergo a surgery.

The Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht confirmed Pierre-Paul’s accident in a statement, but didn’t provide further details about the matter.

“We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited,” – said Licht. “We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future.”

Drafted 15th overall in 2010 NFL Draft by New York Giants, Jason Pierre-Paul’s career has seen its fair share of ups and downs. While he was a mediocre player for most of his time with the Giants, he did have two Pro-Bowl seasons and had two years in which he had double digits in sacking.

Giants decided to trade Pierre-Paul to Tampa Bay in 2018 for a third round draft pick, and he seemed like he benefited from the change of scenery by contributing with 46 tackles and 12.5 sacks last season.
