Gent and Canada international striker Jonathan David is reportedly on the move. According to RCM’s Mohamed Bouhafsi, David agreed to personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille.

The move isn’t finalized yet, as the clubs haven’t managed to agree on a transfer fee. Bouhafsi reports that Lille is currently offering $28 million while Gent wants at least $34 million for the player.

Considering that the difference isn’t so significant, however, the two sides are expected to come up with an agreement in coming days.

Jonathan David has been having a monster year with Genk before the Belgian Pro League canceled its season due to coronavirus pandemic. The 20-year-old striker scored 18 goals in just 27 league games while also adding eight assists.

Thanks to this fine form, David emerged as a target for several European top clubs, including Inter Milan, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund. However, it is hard to believe that the Canadian would manage to establish himself as the No.1 choice upfront with these clubs, so move to Lille makes sense.

David, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, has managed to translate his good form to Canada’s national team as well. He already has 11 goals for the senior team despite only making his debut in 2018.
