Vancouver Canucks are not interested in trading All-Star winger Brock Boeser. At least this is what the team’s general manager Jim Benning told reporters in a conference call on Monday.

Reports surfaced last week that Canucks are exploring trade options for Boeser, and are already talking with several interested parties. Among the interested teams are Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild.

However, Benning denied these reports on Monday during a conference call with reporters, saying that the Canucks are happy with Boeser and do not intend to trade him.

“We’ve been happy with him since we drafted him,” said Benning. “I don’t know where this stuff comes from. I have no intention of trading Brock Boeser.”

Benning also added that he talked with the player about the rumors and reassured him that he has a future in Vancouver.

According to the original report, the reason why Vancouver Canucks are thinking about trading Brock Boeser has to do a lot with their offseason plans.

By parting ways with Boeser and his $5.8 million salary, Canucks would have enough space to resign Tyler Toffoli, who is set to become a free agent after the season. Also, the trade would help them to acquire assets and facilitate other moves.

Since making his NHL debut in 2017, Boeser emerged as a solid performer for Canucks. He played a total of 197 games, contributing with 75 goals and 86 assists for a total of 161 points.

Boeser’s best season was in 2017/18 when he had 55 points and made the NHL All-Star game.
