The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly bracing for the worst news after their starting quarterback Kyler Murray got injured in a 13-27 loss to the New England Patriots during Monday Night Football. According to Cardinals’ beat writer Mike Jurecki, Murray has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Murray got hurt during the opening drive against the Pats. After scrambling on 1st & 10, he made a run towards the first down marker before his knee buckled, and he fell on the ground. The 25-year-old player was unable to get up by himself and needed to be carted off the field.

“Obviously, it didn’t look good,” Kingsbury told reporters after the game. “I’ve never seen him in that type of shape, so I assumed it wasn’t good.”

With Murray out, the Cardinals don’t have much to hope for in 2022. They were already on the verge of dropping out of the playoff race before the Pats game, and another loss only sealed their fate. Arizona is currently third in NFC West with a 4-9 record.

During the offseason, the Cardinals handed Kyler Murray a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension that made him one of the best-paid players in football. However, Murray didn’t exactly justify this investment in 2021, throwing for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His 51.3 QBR is 21st in the league among starting quarterbacks, while his passer rating of 87.2 in 2022 is his career-worst as a pro.
