Arizona Cardinals will have to find a way to keep their running game going without starter Kenyan Drake in the next couple of weeks.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Drake is dealing with an ankle injury that will make him miss few games. The exact timeline of the 26-year-old player’s return is still unknown, as Arizona needs to determine the severity of the injury.

Rapoport reports few scenarios in play here, including Drake landing on the Injured Reserve list.

Drake got hurt during the fourth quarter of the Week 7 game against Seattle Seahawks. He initially attempted to play through pain, but after few plays had to leave the field while visibly limping. At that point, he had 34 rushing yards and one pass catch.

Losing Kenyan Drake isn’t all that harmless for Arizona Cardinals considering the way he performed since arriving last year from Miami Dolphins. After encouraging the end of the 2019 season, Drake picked up where he left off in 2020. Throughout seven games he totaled 512 rushing yards and four touchdowns while also adding seven receptions for 29 yards.

In Drake’s absence, Arizona will turn to backup Chase Edmonds, who proved that he can be a reliable option when called upon. Besides Edmonds, rookie duo Jonathan and Eno Benjamin are also expected to get a look.
