Carlos Correa has agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the San Francisco Giants. This record-long deal is also the most expensive in history for a shortstop.

Picked up as a free agent, Correa also looked to sign a $300 million-plus deal last year before settling for a shorter-term contract with the Minnesota Twins including an opt-out after the first season. Now, Correa has landed the second-biggest deal of the current offseason, behind the nine-year, $360 million contract signed by Aaron Judge with the New York Yankees.

During his solitary season with the Twins, Correa appeared in 136 games, scoring hitting .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs.

2021 proved to be the 28-year-old’s best season to date, during which he won the Platinum Glove and developed his reputation as one of the best defensive shortstops in the league. This was also his fourth successive season posting 5.0-plus wins above replacement.

Correa’s performance during his final 120 games with Minnesota did much to raise his market value and generate interest from numerous teams as he hit .307/.381/.496 with 21 home runs. While disappointed not to retain the player, the Twins understood that Correa would be a hot prospect upon becoming a free agent.
