West Ham legend Carlton Cole urged Chelsea fans “not to be bitter” after several fans reacted furiously to Cole’s wild celebration following West Ham’s thrilling 3-2 victory over the Blues.
Having started his career with Chelsea, Cole went on to represent the Hammers in nearly 300 appearances. During the Premier League clash between his two former teams behind closed doors, the former striker appeared on Sky Sports’ watch along and was seen reacting wildly when West Ham sealed the win with an 89th minute winner.
After numerous Chelsea fans reacted furiously to Cole’s celebration on social media, the 36-year-old addressed them on his Twitter account, explaining “How any Chelsea supporter can criticize me for celebrating West Ham scoring and winning is beyond me. Let me get this right! I’m supposed to not celebrate because you gave me a chance in my youth days?”
He also explained that while he is grateful for the opportunity that Chelsea gave him, it was with the Hammers that he enjoyed his best years and the majority of his career. He also reminded fans that West Ham desperately needed the three points due to their relegation battle, which added even more emotion to the game.
