Manchester United was held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home in their Premier League clash with last-placed Southampton on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils spent the majority of the match a man down after Casemiro was shown a red card.

Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute when he was deemed to have displayed a high boot in his tackle on Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz. While referee Anthony Taylor originally brandished a yellow card for Casemiro, he exchanged it for a red following a VAR review of the incident.

Despite being down to ten men, the hosts attempted to put pressure on the Saints, with Marcus Rashford having his shot saved after going one-on-one with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. In the second half, captain Bruno Fernandes come closest to scoring, taking a far-range shot that Bazunu tipped onto the post.

The second half was also riddled with controversy, with Taylor refusing to award two penalty appeals by the home side and Kyle Walker-Peters’s hard challenge on substitute Alejandro Garnacho, who himself had to be substituted due to injury following the incident.

Man Utd remains third in the Premier League following the goalless draw, while Southampton remains bottom of the league.
