Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz is eyeing a quick return to the Formula One grid following an appendix surgery and plans to race at the Australian Grand Prix this upcoming weekend.

Sainz was diagnosed with appendicitis ahead of the qualifying race at Saudi Arabia GP and had to undergo a procedure to remove his appendix. While he hasn’t been in an F1 car since then, the Spanish driver believes he is fit enough to resume racing.

“Just by seeing me move and the exercises that I’m doing in the gym, this tells me I’m fit to jump into the car tomorrow and try,” Sainz told reporters on Thursday.

Sainz is currently scheduled to take part in the first two practice sessions for Australian GP. These practice runs will determine whether he takes part in the qualifiers on Saturday and race on Sunday.

“If I don’t feel good tomorrow, I will be the first one to raise my hand and say that I need another two weeks to the next race,” he added.

Carlos Sainz had a great start to the 2024 F1 season, finishing third at Bahrain Grand Prix. He is likely highly motivated to continue delivering good results, considering he’ll be out of a job at the end of the year. Ferrari has already made a decision not to renew his contract and will replace Sainz with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in 2025.

Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton is reportedly on the verge of leaving Mercedes and joining Ferrari. Hamilton is expected to make a switch in the 2025 F1 season.

Hamilton signed a new contract extension with Mercedes in 2023 that was supposed to keep him with the team for at least two more seasons. However, according to ESPN, the second year was an option, and the 39-year-old driver is now looking to embrace a new challenge.

Hamilton spent his entire F1 career with Mercedes teams, McLaren Mercedes and Mercedes-AMG Petronas, and established himself as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. He is tied with legendary Michael Schumacher for most championships and holds a number of records, including most career wins at 103.

However, in recent years, Hamilton hasn’t been able to consistently compete for championships. After finishing second on the F1 Driver Standings in a dramatic fashion in 2021, he failed to win a single race in the following two seasons.

Ferrari recently gave a new contract to Charles Leclerc but kept the status of their No. 2 driver, Carlos Sainz, uncertain after the 2024 season. It now becomes clear why.

By bringing a big name in Hamilton, Ferrari is likely hoping to end their championship drought. Their most recent title came in 2007, thanks to Kimi Räikkönen.

Despite already being crowned the Formula One champion at the Qatar Grand Prix in early October, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen never took his foot off the gas. Verstappen finished first in all of the five remaining races, including a dominant win at Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which served as the final race of the 2023 F1 season.

Verstappen started the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from the pole position and never looked in danger of ceding the lead, finishing 17.9 seconds ahead of runner-up Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.

The 26-year-old Dutchman also claimed the fastest lap.

Verstappen finished the season with a record-extending 19 wins in 22 races. Only two other drivers managed to get a win this season, with his teammate Sergio Perez finishing first at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Azerbaijan Grand Prix and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz taking the Singapore Grand Prix.

Two wins allowed Perez to finish second on the Driver Standings in front of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Leclerc rounded up the Top 5.

Red Bull finished at the top of the Constructors Standings with 860 points, more than double compared to second-placed Mercedes’ 409 points. Ferrari finished third with just three points behind Mercedes.

Alpha Tauri will enter the 2024 Formula One season with an unchanged driver lineup of Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda. The team made the official announcement on Friday.

Liam Lawson, who served as the team’s reserve driver in 2023, will continue in his role next season as well.

Alpha Tauri entered the 2023 season with Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries as their main drivers. While Tsunoda had its ups and downs, he still managed to bring some points to the team. De Vries, on the other hand, was the worst driver on the grid and ended up losing his job, failing to get a single point in 10 races.

Shortly after moving on from de Vries, Alpha Tauri turned to Ricciardo and signed him to a contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old Australian, who served as Red Bull’s third driver earlier in the year, hardly impressed and didn’t record points in his first two races. He is currently out with a broken hand, and it’s unclear when he might return.

While Ricciardo was recovering, Lawson stepped in and actually managed to put together a string of promising performances that included a ninth finish at the Singapore Grand Prix. However, Alpha Tauri executives obviously don’t believe he’s ready to take the full-time job just yet.

The current Formula 1 campaign is still underway, but the racing competition already released its schedule for the 2024 season.

The calendar for the next year starts with Bahrain Grand Prix in March and wraps up with Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December. There will be a total of 24 races, an increase of two races compared to the current season.

The new addition to the calendar will be the Chinese Grand Prix, which is scheduled to return after four years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic. Also included is Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which was canceled this year due to massive flooding that happened in the Emilia Romagna area.

There have also been several notable movements. Japanese GP, which usually takes place in the second half of the season, will be moved to the fourth circuit in 2024. Azerbaijan GP jumped to be the No. 17 circuit, while Qatar GP will now be back-to-back with Abu Dhabi GP.

“I’m delighted to announce the 2024 calendar with 24 races that will deliver an exciting season for our fans around the world. There is huge interest and continued demand for Formula 1, and I believe this calendar strikes the right balance between traditional races and new and existing venues,” said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won his second career F1 title after emerging at the top of the troubled Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday morning. Verstappen managed to claim the championship despite the fact that there are four GPs left in the 2022 Formula One season.

The Japanese GP itself was highly controversial as the race was stopped after only two laps due to bad weather. After a lengthy delay, the drivers returned to Suzuka for a restart but managed to only complete 29 laps before the official three-hour race window wrapped up.

Verstappen led the whole race and emerged as a winner, but he didn’t realize he was also a champion crossing the checkered flag. The Dutch driver thought he would receive only half of the allocated points due to the race not being completed in full. However, since the race actually concluded on the track, the drivers were entitled to full points despite the short duration.

“Yeah, it’s really a crazy feeling of course because I didn’t expect when I crossed the line,” Verstappen said. “You could see it slowly happening. It’s incredible that we did win it here.”

With 25 points from the Japanese GP, Verstappen collected 366 points in total and is out of reach for the rest of the field. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who finished second at Suzuka, is at No. 2 with 253 points, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc sits in third place with 252 points.

McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo is aware that he’ll have a hard time landing a spot on the grid for the 2023 F1 season. This is why the 33-year-old Australian is now open to being a reserve driver, but under the condition that it’s a top team.

Ricciardo previously had a contract with McLaren through 2023, but the team decided to release him a year earlier in order to free up a car for Formula 2 champ Oscar Piastri. This left Ricciardo low on options since only Alpine, Haas, and Williams haven’t locked their lineups.

Ricciardo recently told the reporters that his management is talking with a number of teams and that he is weighing his options. One of them is to remain in F1 but as a backup.

“I know that if I choose to take a reserve role or not race next year, nothing’s guaranteed,” he said. “So that comes at a risk, but that’s what we are weighing up. At this stage, especially with a top team, there are no guarantees.”

Daniel Ricciardo started his Formula 1 journey in 2011 with HRT Formula 1 Team. He had his biggest success while a member of Red Bull, finishing third on the Drivers Standings in 2014 and 2016. Ricciardo has 19 points in 17 races this season and is yet to make the podium.

Aston Martin didn’t waste much time on finding a new driver after Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement last week. The Formula One team confirmed on Monday that two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso is set to step in for Vettel in 2023.

Alonso reportedly signed a multi-year deal with Aston Martin, meaning that the 41-year-old racer isn’t thinking about retirement anytime soon.

“I still have the hunger and ambition to fight to be at the front, and I want to be part of an organization that is committed to learn, develop and succeed,” said Alonso after the news became public. “We all appreciate that there is much to be done to get to the front, and that we must apply all our energies in working together to find performance.”

Alonso didn’t notify his current team, Alpine, about the decision to switch teams next season. Reportedly, Alpine only found out about the news after Aston Martin made a press release on Monday. Alonso and Alpine previously held negotiations about a new contract but couldn’t agree on its length.

Fernando Alonso previously took a break from F1 after 2018 before returning to the competition last season. He has been driving quite well in 2022, holding 10th place on the F1 drivers’ standings with 41 points. Alonso’s best race this season was the fifth-place finish at the British GP.

The race for the 2022 Formula One World Championship title is full steam ahead, and Max Verstappen is a clear favorite to take it home. He cemented his status as a front-runner after scoring another major victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The race opened with Verstappen in the pole position, and he lived up to the hype. Despite Carlos Sainz’s best efforts to leave the Dutch driver in the dust, Verstappen wasn’t giving up – not even after the final safety car give his competitor a major advantage.

“I was closing in on Carlos, but I was not sure if I actually would fully close that gap to the end of the race, but then the Safety Car came out. And I was also not very happy with that, because then I knew, of course, that he had fresh tires behind me,” said Verstappen post-race.

Sainz eventually took the second spot, while Lewis Hamilton and George Russell came in third and fourth for Mercedes. Following the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen extended his lead over the former championship leader Charles Leclerc to 49 points. This marks his sixth win in nine races this season, and he’ll have a chance to extend his lead at the British Grand Prix taking place between July 1-3.

Reigning Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has repeatedly stated that he wants to finish his career with Red Bull. And it now seems he’s one step closer to that goal after reportedly inking a new deal with the F1 team.

According to Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf, the agreement adds several more years to Verstappen’s existing contract that ran through 2023. It also makes him one of the highest-paid F1 drivers. The reported figure is around $53 million a year; the same amount Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is making.

The new contract removes any doubt about Verstappen’s long-term future with the franchise, although it seemed unlikely that the 24-year-old Dutchman might wish for a change of scenery. It also rewards Verstappen for winning his first F1 Championship in 2021 and putting an end to Hamilton’s streak of four consecutive titles.

Red Bull will also have its no. 2 driver Sergio Perez on board for the next season after the Mexican signed an extension last year. However, Perez’s future with the team is uncertain beyond 2022, considering that Red Bull prefers to give opportunities to their younger drivers.

The 2022 F1 season is scheduled to start on March 20th with Bahrain Grand Prix.
