Cavs Reportedly Want First Rounder for Kevin Love

It’s not a secret that Cleveland Cavaliers are actively shopping their five-time All-Star forward Kevin Love. Cavs are far from contention and would prefer to get out of Love’s big contract while giving the 31-year-old a chance to play for a playoff team.

While it looks like Love being traded by Cleveland is inevitable, this might not happen soon, as many predicted. According to The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd, there is quite a big gap between what Cavs are asking and what other teams are willing to offer.

Lloyd reports that Cavs would like to get a first-round pick in any trade that involves Love. However, Love’s potential suitors are actually asking for a first-rounder from Cleveland, given that they would need to take on the player’s four-year, $120 million, contract.

So far, neither team was willing to come up with an offer that will entice the Cavaliers, while Cavs themselves look reluctant to drop down the price. This might change in the coming weeks, depending on how desperate some teams get in an attempt to make a playoff push.

The Ringer recently reported that Kevin Love’s preferred destination would be Portland Trail Blazers. Love was linked with Blazers numerous times before, given the fact that he grew up in Oregon and played high school basketball there. Portland is currently struggling to replicate the success they had the previous season and might decide to pull the trigger on Love if they continue to have a disappointing year.

After missing all but 22 games with injury last season, Love returned to court in 2019/20 and looked good so far. He currently averages a double-double with 16.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
