Veteran corner Richard Sherman finally found a team to play for in the 2021 NFL season. After spending much of the year as a free agent, Sherman signed a one-year deal with the reigning Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday.

The deal was confirmed by the Bucs on their official social media.

Tampa Bay signing Sherman comes just days after head coach Bruce Arians told reporters that the 33-year-old QB is one of the options the team is considering in attempts to improve depth in the secondary. The Bucs previously lacked dependable options at the corner position after starter Sean Murphy-Bunting landed on the injured reserve earlier this month and third-year cornerback Jamel Dean suffered a knee injury in Week 3.

After the news became official, Richard Sherman discussed his free agency during The Richard Sherman Podcast. He revealed that there were multiple teams interested in his services, including the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Carolina Panthers. But the Bucs ended up giving the best offer, so he decided to go to Tampa.

“I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out there and put some great tape on, to lead another group,” Sherman revealed. “I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to go out there and execute and help that team win.”

Sherman spent the 2020 NFL season with the 49ers, playing just five games due to calf strain. He finished the campaign with 18 tackles, one interception, and one pass defended.
