Injuries continue to pile up for Los Angeles Chargers in the 2020 NFL season. This time it’s their No. 1 running back Austin Ekeler who got hurt and faces an extended period on the sidelines.

Chargers announced on Monday that they placed Ekeler on injured reserve following a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 4 loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the 25-year-old running back will be eligible to return to the active roster in three weeks, it is expected that he misses at least one month.

Ekeler had a solid start of the season, rushing for 236 yards and one touchdown in the first three weeks of 2020. He also added 17 receptions for 144 yards and leads the team in yards from scrimmage.

Without Ekeler on board, Chargers will now probably turn to 2020’s fourth-round pick Joshua Kelley, who is enjoying a promising rookie campaign at the moment. Third-year player Justin Jackson should also be in the mix to fill the void.

Chargers already saw a number of their key players go down with injuries in recent weeks. Star safety Derwin James is out for the season with a torn meniscus, while offensive tackle Brian Bulaga, wide receiver Mike Williams and quarterback Tyrod Taylor are all experiencing injury issues as well.
