Los Angeles Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers did not only lead his team to a 45-10 win over Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but he also managed to get his name into the NFL record books. Rivers started the game versus Cardinals by completing 25 consecutive passes, tying the league record.

The record-tying pass was a 4-yard touchdown throw to Keenan Allen.

He’s a baller, a Hall of Famer” – said Chargers Wide receiver Mike Williams. “He gives us opportunities, and he makes everything easier for us as receivers.

The previous record for most consecutive completions was set by Miami Dolphins’ QB Ryan Tannehill in 2015. Unlike Phillip Rivers, Tannehill needed to games to reach this mark.

Rivers had a chance to break the record, but his under pressure pass to Austin Ekeler midway through the third quarter wasn’t good. This was his also his only miss of the game.

I did know that we hadn’t missed, but I didn’t know where it was,”-said River. “I did know that that first miss was that little short throw to Ekeler of all things. It was an efficient day, to say the least. There were so many guys today who were making catches, and the guys protected up front.”

A lot goes into completing the ball, more than just me throwing it. It was a fun day, to say the least,” – he added.

By completing his first 25 throws against the Cardinals, Rivers also broke the record for most consecutive completions to start a game, which was previously held by Washington Redskins’ Mark Brunell.

Philip Rivers finished the game 259 yards and three touchdowns in three quarters as he was relieved in the fourth by Geno Smith.
