A move that was long rumored and long expected in the soccer world finally became official on Thursday, as Chelsea FC announced that they have come to an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign striker Timo Werner.

The German goalscorer, who has scored 26 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches this season at the age of 24, will reportedly make the move to the Premier League for a fee of $60 million.

Werner, an international player with the German national team, made his debut with VfB Stuttgart at the age of 17 in 2012, becoming the youngest player to ever feature for the club.

He joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2016, quickly becoming one of the key figures for a team that has risen from relative obscurity to a fixture at the top of the Bundesliga table and in European competitions.

Werner has scored 76 goals in 125 matches for RB Leipzig, and is expected to add a much-needed dose of striking quality and youth for a Chelsea team that hasn’t gotten the production it has wanted from players such as Olivier Giroud.

The German striker will join the team this summer and become one of the hottest players to follow in the Premier League next season as he looks to help Chelsea push for a title.
