Both Chelsea and Man City want to address the issues they have on the full-back position, and it appears they have identified the same man as the solution. According to multiple reports, two Premier League clubs are set to clash in an attempt to acquire Everton’s Lucas Digne.

Digne came to Everton from Barcelona in 2018 and has been a constant performer for the Merseyside club ever since. He was especially particular this season, causing the top clubs to take particular interest in him.

Chelsea hasn’t had stability on the left-back for a while, with manager Frank Lampard originally wanting to get Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell. However, since Leicester set an asking price of around $80 million for the 23-year-old, Chelsea decided to shift their focus to Digne.

Still, it won’t be an easy task to get him to Stamford Bridge, as Man City is preparing to enter the race. City previously believed that they were set for the future on LB when they splashed $60 million on Benjamin Mendy in 2017. However, Mendy struggled to stay on the field since his arrival, playing only 49 games in the past three seasons.

According to reports, Chelsea and City believe that Digne would be an affordable and reliable option and have already made an approach for the player. It is believed that Everton is also ready to sell if the price is right, as they have talented youngster Niels Nkounkou waiting for his chance.

Digne started his career with Lille, before embarking on stints with Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma, Barcelona, and now Everton. He has also been a member of the French national team since 2014, playing 30 games for the senior team.
