After acquiring Timo Werner last month, Chelsea could convince another Bundesliga star to play on Stamford Bridge next season. According to ESPN, the London club is closing in on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.

Reportedly, Havertz is keen to sign with Chelsea and wants to leave Germany this summer. The Premier League side is optimistic about making a deal with Bayer but wants to see if they can lower the player’s $100 million asking price.

Chelsea would be willing to pay around $80 million according to sources, as they want to keep enough in the bank to make a push for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell or Everton’s Lucas Digne.

Kai Havertz emerged as a target for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich after scoring 29 goals and adding 10 assists in the past two Bundesliga seasons. However, neither club made the official approach for the 21-year-old player.

Bayern pulled back out of the race after facing criticism from its players about Havertz’ high asking price. Real, on the other hand, is still interested in German international but is waiting to see how the market shapes up amid the coronavirus pandemic.
