Chelsea and English international midfielder Ross Barkley is due to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan for the 2020/21 season.

Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2018, Barkley has struggled to hit top form and has been unable to secure a spot in the starting eleven. This loan provides him with the opportunity to enjoy some first-team football.

Barkley’s current predicament is a stark contrast to the way things were when he first burst onto the Premier League scene as a teenager.

The dynamic playing style that Barkley exhibited in his 179 appearances for Everton made him one of the league’s top transfer targets, thus leading to The Blues forking out $19 million for the player.

Unfortunately, a combination of injuries and poor runs of form led to Barkley falling out of favor with Chelsea.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, is chuffed to have secured the services of one such talented player. “Capturing a player of Ross’s quality is a real coup for our club and I am certain he will thrive here and improve our team,” Aston Villa manager Dean Smith told his club’s official website.
