Chicago Fire’s defender Brandon Vincent made a surprising decision to retire from soccer at age 24. Vincent, who only played professionally for three seasons, announced his retirement via a statement posted on social media.
“Today I am announcing that, effective at the end of the year, I will be retiring from professional soccer,” Vincent wrote in a statement. “This may come as a surprise to many, but I’m at a time in my life where it is best for me to move on from the game.”

Brandon Vincent played a total of 32 games in MLS this season, contributing with one goal and four assists. The Sunday’s draw against D.C. United will now be Vincent’s last professional match, given the fact that Fire missed out on the playoffs after finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference.
Brandon Vincent was drafted fourth overall in 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire and was widely regarded one of the most talented American defenders. He has played 85 games in Major League Soccer over the course of his career and has scored three goals.
Vincent was also part of the United States men’s national team, making his first and only appearance on February 5, 2016, in a friendly match against Canada.
