Reaching playoffs for the first time since 2008 with Chicago White Sox wasn’t enough for Rick Renteria to keep his job.

White Sox announced on Monday that they have parted ways with Renteria, bringing to his stint as team’s manager to an end after four years. Chicago also said goodbye to pitching coach Don Cooper, who was with the organization for the past 18 years.

The team confirmed the moves on their official social media.

According to White Sox general manager Rick Hahn, the franchise will now look for a manager that can bring them back to winning ways and add to their World Series tally.

“Ultimately, I think the best candidate or the ideal candidate is going to be someone who has experience with a championship organization in recent years; recent October experience with a championship organization,” said Hahn following the announcement.

Rick Renteria joined the White Sox in 2015 as a bench coach under Robin Ventura. Following Ventura’s dismissal in 2017, the franchise promoted Renteria to managerial post after an extensive search.

In his four seasons with Chicago, Renteria posted an overall record of 236-309. In 2020, he led the White Sox to a 35-25 record, but lost 12 out of the last 15 games to lose the home advantage for the postseason, which concluded with ALWC elimination in three games by Oakland Athletics.
