The Kansas City Chiefs have locked their Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey to a new long-term extension. However, they needed a record offer to do that.
According to multiple reports, the Chiefs have signed Humphrey to a four-year, $72 million extension. With an average annual salary of $18 million annually, Humphrey easily became the highest-paid player at his position. He also surpassed retired Philadelphia Eagles Jason Kelce, who previously held the record as the highest-paid center in the history of the league with $14.5 million a year.
Chiefs confirmed Humphrey’s new deal on Saturday but didn’t disclose the financial terms of the agreement. The Oklahoma product was previously set to enter the final year of his rookie deal in 2024.
The Chiefs drafted Humphrey in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He won the starting job as a rookie and has since started every regular season and playoff game. In total, Humphrey has 51 starts in the regular season and 10 starts in the postseason with Kansas City.
Humphrey helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowl Rings while also making back-to-back Pro Bowls in the past two seasons. He also has a Second-team All-Pro selection from 2022 on his resume.
