Kansas City Chiefs keep showing that they are not afraid to spend money in order to keep the Super Bowl-winning team together. After previously locking quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones to massive extensions earlier this summer, now it came time for their star tight end Travis Kelce to get paid as well.

According to NFL Network’s insider Ian Rapoport, Chiefs and Kelce agreed to a four-year, $57 million extension on Thursday. The agreement will now keep the 30-year-old player with the organization through 2026.

Kelce previously signed a five-year extension with Kansas City in 2016 and still has two years left on that deal. He is set to count $11.2 million in 2020 and $9 million in 2021 against the cap, with this number spiking up to $14.25 when the new deal kicks in in 2022.

Despite receiving a significant salary bump, Kelce still won’t be the highest-paid tight end in the league. That honor belongs to San Francisco 49ers George Kittle, who signed a five-year, $75 million extension that brings him $15 million a year just a day before.

Travis Kelce’s new extension almost guarantees he is set to spend his entire career with Chiefs, who took him in the third round of 2013 NFL Draft. Kelce is considered one of the league’s best TEs for some time now, having 83+ receptions, 1,0083 yards, and 4+ touchdowns in each of the past four seasons. He also has two First-team All-Pro selections, five consecutive Pro Bowls since 2015, and made it to NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.
