The Kansas City Chiefs will be forced to play out the remainder of the regular 2020 season without their standout rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. According to multiple reports, Edwards-Helaire suffered a high ankle sprain in a 32-29 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and is set to miss at least two games.

The 21-year-old LSU product got hurt during a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter. He was awkwardly tackled by a Saints defender and had to leave the contest.

Reportedly, the X-rays on Edwards-Helaire’s ankle showed that there is no structural damage, so the Chiefs are hoping he might be back in time to play in the playoffs.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, is the Chiefs’ leading rusher this season. He rushed for 803 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games while also catching 36 passes for 297 yards and a score.

In Edwards-Helaire’s absence, the Chiefs are expected to give the ball to veteran Le’Veon Bell. In eight games with Kansas City in 2020, Bell rushed for 224 yards and two TDs.
