Last Sunday, leading French club Paris Saint-Germain had an opportunity to win the Ligue 1 title after a 2-2 draw with Strasbourg, yet they blew it with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s unbelievable miss from on the goal-line in the 28th minute.

The Cameroonian gave PSG an early, 13th-minute lead, but Strasbourg quickly leveled the score. Fifteen minutes later, with everyone watching in utter disbelief, Choupo-Moting needlessly deflected a goal shot from team-mate Christopher Nkunku and, in a series of incredibly awkward movements, somehow diverted the ball onto the foot of the post and kept the ball out of the net. The miss, which was one of the worst you are ever likely to see, robbed his team of the chance of regaining the lead in the first half. Later in the first half, Strasbourg scored two goals.

After the match, Choupo-Moting apologized for his grave mistake and said that “it all happened very fast” and it’s “a shame” they didn’t win. Thomas Tuchel, the head coach at PSG, commented that Choupo-Moting is an “excellent back-up player to have” but ultimately lacks the confidence necessary for being a top player.

PSG have two matches away from home before facing Monaco at home on April 21.
