On Saturday, April 13, undefeated middleweight world champions Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer will meet in a historic fight that will decide the women’s middleweight champion of the world.
With unsurprising confidence, Claressa Shields has declared that she will win because she is destined to become the greatest woman fighter of all time and the upcoming face-off with Christina Hammer will prove that. The fight has been already described as the “biggest fight in women’s boxing history.”
Shields, who’s a two-time Olympic champion, is really vocal about her aspirations regarding the match. She recently said that she wants to “erase that line between men’s boxing and women’s boxing” and make sure both get equal treatment. As she explains, women fighters must sacrifice or put on hold many aspects of their lives if they want to make it in this game.
On Christina Hammer, she commented that she will beat her because she’s good but not great, and has many flaws that make her vulnerable. Hammer has held the WBO middleweight title since 2010, after becoming the youngest boxer in history to win this title.
In response, 28-year old Hammer said that this will be a great opportunity to show the world what women can do in the ring.
