After winning their respective semifinal games on Saturday, the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide advanced to play against each other in the CFP National Championship Game for the third time in the past four years.

Clemson defeated Notre Dame soundly by a score of 30-3 in the first semifinal game on Saturday afternoon.

The game, which was held as the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, saw the ACC champions move to 14-0 on the season after defeating the previously undefeated Fighting Irish. Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the way for Clemson, passing for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns.

In the nightcap, held in Miami as the Orange Bowl, Alabama outscored Oklahoma by a 45-34 final.

The Tide raced out to a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. The Sooners managed to make it interesting, tightening Alabama’s lead several times in the second half. Alabama and coach Nick Saban, however, managed to hold off the Big 12 Champions behind a stellar performance by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who passed for 4 touchdowns and 318 yards.

The two undefeated teams will play for the National Championship on January 7th in Santa Clara, California.
