In the midst of an intense division race with the Minnesota Twins for the control of the AL Central, the Cleveland Indians got some good news over the weekend.

Staff ace Corey Kluber, who has been out since May 1st after being struck by a line drive off of the bat of Marlins hitter Brian Anderson and breaking his ulna, successful threw a two-inning simulated game to three Minor League batters at Progressive Field.

This was Kluber’s first work off of the mound since his early May injury. The Indians currently trail the Twins by 3 games in the AL Central, and Kluber’s return couldn’t come any sooner for a team that has suffered to find rotation depth throughout the season.

The team announced on Sunday that Kluber will make a rehab start with AAA Columbus on Thursday, meaning that the righty could be make to the big leagues as soon as next week.

Despite getting off to a slow start in his first seven appearances of 2019, in which he posted an unusually high 5.09 ERA, Kluber’s return is sure to be a big boost for the Cleveland rotation. The three-time All-Star has won two Cy Young Awards in Cleveland and has been one of baseball’s top pitchers over the past several seasons.

Stay tuned to see exactly when Kluber will return to the mound.
