Cleveland Browns’ 2020 second-round pick Grant Delpit is unfortunately ending his rookie season before it even began. According to NFL Network, Delpit tore his Achilles and will be out until 2021.

Reportedly, Delpit suffered the injury while he was working on some individual drills. At one point, he went up to catch a pass before landing down with a painful expression on his face. The 21-year-old LSU product was carted off from the field, with later MRI test confirming the worst-case scenario.

Loss of Grant Delpit represents a significant blow for Browns, as he was set to start at free safety for the team. Delpit has an impressive college career, winning the National Championship with LSU while earning two consecutive consensus All-American selections. He left college with 199 tackles, 7.0 sacks, eight interceptions, and 24 pass deflections.

Cleveland Browns’ training camp was marked by injuries so far, with the team seeing several of their projected starters go down. Besides Delpit, Browns previously lost linebacker Mack Wilson to knee injury and corner Kevin Johnson to liver laceration. Also, Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb is dealing with a concussion while cornerback Greedy Williams missed the last practice with an unknown issue.
