The Indianapolis Colts have signed their center Ryan Kelly to a contract extension that makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL.
According to reports, Kelly is getting a four-year contract worth $50 million with $34 million in guaranteed money.
Coach Frank Reich has praised Kelly a lot this offseason, calling him “top-notch” and lauding the center for “taking complete control of the offensive line room.”
The Colts are building a strong interior offensive line, solidified by Kelly and led by their mauling guard Quenton Nelson, who will certainly be next in line on the Colts offensive line to receive a huge contract extension when his time comes.
Kelly played all 16 games in 2016 and 2019. His second and third seasons in 2017-2018 were marred by foot injuries and concussions that forced him to sit out a total of 13 games.
Kelly made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2019. According to Pro Football Focus, Kelly received a grade of 73.0, which ranked eighth among NFL centers.
The fifth-year center will be a big part of helping the Colts new quarterback, veteran Phillip Rivers, get acclimated to a new offense after playing 16 seasons with the Chargers.
