It didn’t take long for veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer to find a new job after being released by the New England Patriots over the weekend. According to multiple reports, Hoyer signed with the Indianapolis Colts to be their backup QB.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Colts gave Hoyer a handsome deal, signing him to a three-year, $12 million contract. The agreement also includes $9 million in guaranteed money for the 34-year-old journeyman.

Patriots decided to release Hoyer on Saturday, giving the rookie Jarrett Stidham the job of Tom Brady’s backup.

After the retirement of Andrew Luck, Colts gave the starting job to backup Jacoby Brissett, but were short on other QB options. They’ve worked out several veterans in recent days, including former Miami Dolphin’s player Brock Osweiler, but didn’t like what they ended up seeing from them.

Brian Hoyer signed with New England Patriots in 2009 as an undrafted free agent and ended up spending the first three years of his career with the organization. He then embarked on a series of short stints with a number of other franchises including Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns.

Hoyer had his most productive season as a pro in 2014, when he started 13 games with the Browns and threw for 3,326 yards and 12 touchdowns.
