The Columbus Crew’s pursuit for a new head coach has reportedly zeroed in on CF Montreal’s Wilfried Nancy. However, Crew still hasn’t made an official approach to Nancy as they need permission from Montreal to interview him.

Nancy is under contract with Montreal through the 2023 MLS season after receiving an automatic extension for getting the team to the MLS playoffs. The club finished the 2022 regular season second in the East but ended up being eliminated in the conference semi-finals by New York City FC.

Nancy had a press conference on Tuesday but didn’t feel like discussing his future when asked about Crew’s interest.

“Today is the end of season presser, I don’t want to talk about my situation,” said Nancy. “We’ll have time to talk about it later, but now we talk about the season.”

Wilfried Nancy, a former defender who mostly played lower-tier football in France, spent most of his coaching career in Montreal. He started as an academy coach in 2012 and climbed the ranks until becoming an assistant for the first team four years later. After Thierry Henry resigned after the 2020 MLS season, Nancy was promoted to head coach.

During his time as Montreal’s head coach, Nancy compiled a 37-17-25 record. He finished his first season in charge 10th in Eastern Conference while winning Canadian Championship.
