This year’s Copa America did not see the expected results of Argentina’s football team under the leadership of the legendary Lionel Messi. Instead, the Argentinian team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Brazil in the semi-finals and managed to win the match for the third place against Chile. During the championship, Messi complained about refereeing errors and said that the cup was fixed so Brazil would win.

Also, the Barcelona player accused the referees of corruption saying that they don’t allow people to enjoy football and that they have ruined it for everyone.

His accusations and complaints stirred things up and caused a quick reaction by the Conmebol, which is the South American Football Confederation. Conmebol decided to punish Messi by handing him a three month ban from international football. Besides the ban, the 32-year-old player was also issued a fine of $50,000. Now, he has just seven days to appeal the punishment.

If the commission doesn’t repeal the ban, Messi could end up missing three friendly games that Argentina is scheduled to have with Germany, Chile, and Mexico in the next three months.

The confederation had said that Messi’s claims were unfounded.
