Veteran safety Earl Thomas might face trouble landing a new job after being released by Baltimore Ravens late last week.  San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, the two teams that have been considered favorites to sign Thomas, are apparently not interested in the seven-time Pro Bowler.

When asked about the prospect of signing Thomas on Wednesday, 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled out this possibility saying he is happy with the safeties he currently has on board.

“I’m real happy with our safeties, and I mean nothing against Earl, but there wasn’t interest because we have our team,” said Shanahan. “We have the guys that we want in our spot, and this is how we planned it. We’ve got some good competition there too with the guys that have been behind them. I’m real excited about our group.”

Cowboys, on the other hand, didn’t publicly announce they are out of the race, but sources close to the team say they won’t pursue Thomas at this point. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Dallas made “made some inquiries” but opted against the move.

Ravens decided to release Earl Thomas after the 31-year-old safety had a physical altercation with teammate Chuck Clark during practice on Friday. He still had three years left on four-year, $55 million contract he inked with Baltimore in 2019.

Despite his troubling behavior, it is highly unlikely that Thomas won’t play this season. After 49ers and Cowboys decided to pass on him, Houston Texans are believed to be front runners for his signature.
