Could this be the year that the Dallas Cowboys finally become a contender? Well, judging by their statement 41-21 win over division rivals Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, it could be.

Led by quarterback Dak Prescott, who was playing his first home game in almost a year, the Cowboys delivered a dominant performance that saw them pilling up five touchdowns on offense and one on defense. Prescott completed 21 out of 26 pass attempts while throwing for 238 yards and three TDs.

“Just thankful for everything that I’ve been through, all of the hard work that made me account for just to be back out here doing what I love,” Prescott, who missed the better part of the 2020 season with an ankle injury, said after the game. “It’s the greatest place to play football.”

Dallas Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott also stepped in to help, having his best game this season. Elliot rushed for 95 yards and two scores while also catching three passes for 21 yards. Tight end Dalton Schultz added six receptions for 80 yards and two TDs.

The Eagles were led by their second-year signal-caller Jalen Hurts, who threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns. However, Hurts also had two costly interceptions, including one that the Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs returned for a touchdown.

The win saw the Cowboys improving to a 2-1 record and taking the lead in the NFC East. The Eagles, on the other hand, are third with 1-2.
